Ian Rowe Bio

Ian Rowe is CEO of  Public Prep (2010-Present), where he provides strategic direction for the nation’s first and oldest non-profit network of exceptional tuition-free PreK and single-sex elementary and middle public schools. Public Prep’s unique approach places equal emphasis on character development, college knowledge, and academic excellence through an integrated curriculum to ensure all of its scholars are on a path towards college completion and beyond. Public Prep currently educates nearly 2,000 scholars on five Girls Prep Lower East Side, Boys Prep Bronx and Girls Prep Bronx campuses. Girls Prep has nearly 600 alumnae, the oldest of whom are now enrolled at prestigious colleges and universities such as Yale, Howard, Skidmore, Tufts, Cornell and Brandeis.

Prior to Public Prep, Ian was the Deputy Director of Postsecondary Success at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (2009-2010) and Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Public Affairs MTV (2003-2009), where he won two Emmys developing global and domestic campaigns, such as “Get Schooled,” which used the power of media and popular culture to motivate young people to graduate from high school and go to and succeed in college, and “Choose or Lose,” which helped mobilize more than 20 million young people to vote in the 2004 and 2008 Presidential elections.

Ian graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and received his BS in Computer Science Engineering from Cornell University (1985) and his MBA from Harvard Business School (1993), where he was first black Editor-in-Chief of the Harbus, the Harvard Business School newspaper.
